Day 3

Will Anything Change?

Write your vision for meaningful change. This is the hardest Rookie call to action of all because it’s absolutely not funny but maybe we, the least experienced drivers, can present a vision for change and real learning. If you could call or text someone who died in a car accident and ask “how would you like to see things change? What would he/she say? What can we do here and now to make your loss as meaningful as possible? We know we can’t bring you back (and believe me, we would if we could), but what CAN we do? Rookies, what would he/she say?

Day 4

Who Cares?

Check out the clings.

Did you happen to notice the guy holding a boomerang? Oh you thought that was an “L” and you weren’t sure if that meant loser, learner or leader? Well, you get to decide. Just remeber to choose your attitude carefully because the boomerang comes back to you.

Review

Send out the cosmic boomerang, virtually of course. When you power down or resist picking up, send a healthy, healing vibe to someone who’s lost a family member in an auto accident.

Since the cosmic boomerang is a mental exercise only, send three people to voicemail virtually today.

Day 5

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

What Were You Thinking?

Send them to voicemail today all day long. You can call everyone right back.

Resist responding to all texts today for at least 5 minutes. If you’re driving, wait to respond until your car is parked and turned off. Time yourself, because it’s harder than it sounds.

As Hip Safety winds down, make sure that YOU are in control of your phone and your phone doesn’t control you.

Day 6

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

What Are The Odds?

Rookies, ask 2 adults to answer these questions. These are required for scholarship contenders.

What are the advantages of using your cell phone while driving? We assume you would never text while driving if you live in Colorado because it’s illegal regardless of age or experience.

What are the risks?

Given that cell phones increase the odds of an accident 400% and some of those accidents result in death, do the advantages clearly outweigh the risks?

How much increased risk of an accident are you willing to accept and under what circumstances?

While you are interviewing two adults, all calls go to voicemail.

Sorry that today is so not funny Rookies. It is what it is.

Day 7

Monday, September 20th, 2010

Ahhhh!

Take a long, hot, relaxing shower with your cell phone. Just kidding!

Have a conversation with your parents about times to avoid calling unless it’s an emergency.

Send your parents to voicemail today. Sorry folks, they will call you right back.

Day 8

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

Sign On!

Persuade two adults to give up answering the phone while driving for at least 21 days.

Convince two adults (over 18) to change the message on call waiting to let everyone know they won’t be picking up if they are driving.

Ask two adults to commit to one of the following contracts. They’re all a little different so encourage careful selection.

Send parents to State Farm.com for information about how to talk to Rookies about safe driving. Remind them: they’ll have plenty of credibility if they are willing to lead by example.

Day 9

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

You’ve Been Rookied!

Video courtesy of Thomas Jefferson High School

Keep your eyes peeled for teachers, parents, coaches and friends who need to be clinged for distracted behavior behind the wheel and cling ‘em!

The video above is pretty funny. Check it out!

Wait 5 minutes before responding to every text today. Time yourself and no cheating!

For a really fun power trip, send three teachers to voicemail virtually. Presumably, your teachers rarely call you.

Day 10

Power Trippin’

Read this carefully…Don’t skip the fine print!

Click on Sightation below to Read/Print your 2 Copies…

Sightations can be used three ways. You can hang on to them and turn them in for a prize at the end of Hip Safety. Or you can enter the sightations into a raffle at the conclusion of the program. Lastly, you can use sightations to negotiate with teachers and parents. Then they get to collect your prize or join the raffle. Decisions, decisions.

Tell us what you “got”. Did you get to squirm out of an assignment?

Choose an accountability partner to help you finish the 21 days AND to help you stay on track with your newly acquired habits.
